Stages of the Infection
Usually starts with one or more painless sores/ulcers (known as a chancre) usually on the genitals. These sores are very infectious but will heal without treatment in 2-6 weeks. By this time the bacteria will spread to other parts of the body leading to

All stages are treatable and curable apart from the third stage which usually occurs MANY years after having the infection which has not been treated. Treatment at this stage can still prevent the spread of infection but damage done to other body organs is not reversible
